Broaching Machines

Broaching parts to close tolerances and with excellent surface finish can be accomplished only with a very rigid machine.  The American design with a heavy duty single piece column and a knee that extends to the floor results in a very strong machine.  The large hardened and ground guide ways and the cast iron slide yields long life and a smoother broaching operation.

If you are wondering how you should power your new broaching machine you have come to the right place.  American Broach offers electro-mechanical and hydraulic machines in all machine lines.  Ask about our hydraulic free machines.

Table Up Internal Broaching

The broach tool is fed down through the workpiece and retained in a puller in the machine knee while the table & workpiece move up over the broach.  The major advantage of the table up machine is that floor level operation is possible without a platform or pit on any size of machine.  Also environmental concerns and relocation problems are minimized.  Automation installation and tool change over are simplified.

Full Frame Internal Pull-Down

The workpiece is located on the table and the broach tool is pulled down through the part on a pull down broaching machine.  A full frame (one piece column) is very strong maintains excellent alignment and high quality parts.  Many American Broach machines with this design are still in operation after fifty years with outstanding reliability and maintainability.

Full Frame Single Ram Surface

This heavy duty machine along with our full line of machines can be equipped with a large variety of part handlers tables and fixtures.  See our option page for more detail.

Vertical Dual Ram Surface

Production can be increased by using a dual ram broaching machine.  Because both rams share the same hydraulic electrical coolant and lubrication systems the cost is substantially lower than two machines.  Typically one person will operate both rams at the same time.  The same heavy duty designs that are used on the single ram machine are all applied to the dual ram equipment.

Tri-way Vertical

A tri-way vertical broaching machine can be used in surface internal pull down and push down applications.  Typically a machine is ordered for a specific application such as surface broaching.  Later if need arises for another type of application such as internal pull down other components can be ordered.

Pot Broaching

Generating gear teeth splines or special forms on the outside diameter of a part is accomplished by pot broaching.  The pot (broach holder) is a large housing with a hole in the center.  The broach tools are located in the housing.  The parts are typically pushed up through the pot or the pot is pulled down over the workpiece.  The pot machine may be either a helical or non-helical type.  Automation is frequently applied.

Electro-Mechanical

American Broach manufactures electro-mechanical broaching machines.  These machines are very quiet and avoid the problems associated with hydraulic machines.  The controls can be integrated with the systems in a transfer line.  The machines are very compact and facilitates high speed operation.

Horizontal with Auto Tool Changer

Horizontal broaching machines offer an advantage for large parts where their size would cause a major cantilever problem for vertical machines.  These machines typically do not require a pit or platform.  They can be used for both internal and surface application.  Automatic broach tool changers can be applied where frequent changeovers are required or the broaches are very large and heavy.  We offer a full range of tonnage and strokes.

Twin Cylinder Pull-Down

Twin cylinder internal pull down broaching machines main advantage is the absence of a large heavy ram (slide).  The reduced inertia facilitates high speed operation.  Also the absence of a large heavy duty column large ram and guide ways reduce costs.

Remanufactured Machines

American Broach remanufactures its own line of machines and its competition.  The typical remanufacturing includes a new hydraulic unit new lubrication new coolant and new electrical systems.  The hydraulic cylinders are remanufactured and the guide ways and slide are reground.  The remanufactured unit is given new machine warranty.

Pull Up

The Pull Up broaching machine has the unique ability to preload a work piece on the broach tool for second pass operations.  The puller heads are located at the top end of the broach so they stay out of the chip flush area.
